Privacy and data protection

Important: This English language translation represents for our English speaking users an information service only. If there is a variance from the German version of this document (you can see here) only the German version is legally binding for users of one224.


The protection of data and personal content (in the following „personal data“) are very important to one224. Within these terms of data protection one224 informs what data protection means to one224 in the area of service provision and how it manages, evaluates, stores, utilizes and protects data.


1. Fundamental Principles of one224 for Handling Private Data  

When handling personal data one224 complies with the following principles:

  • The functionality of one224 requires the collection, handling and storage of personal data. In addition private content can be created and or suspended by one224.
  • one224 complies in regard to the collection of data with the principle of data economy. It is up to each user to decide whether personal information is created or removed.
  • one224 collects, handles, stores, uses and secures personal data in accordance with the laws on data protection of the Federal Republic of Germany and the data protection provisions of the European Union.
  • one224 uses personal data solely to improve and adjust its offering and services to its customers.
  • one224 uses aggregated user data to create its advertising rates. Names and email addresses shall never be forwarded nor otherwise made available to third parties.
  • It is not possible to anonymously give as a gift one224 calendars or to fill individual calendar doors anonymously. The recipient of a one224 calendar shall be informed of the name and e-mail address of the sender or respectively of the person who filled one of the calendar’s doors.

In abiding with these principles one224 wishes to ensure in the first order its responsible handling of personal data as well as to ensure transparency among its users.



2. Registration and Creation of an Account

In order to utilise the offering of one224 every user (calendar sender, calendar door filler, calendar recipient) must register and create his personal account. For registration the following data is necessary:

  • family name, first name
  • e-mail address

This data (family name, first name, e-mail address) must be entered before a calendar can be sent to a recipient. In sending a calendar a pre-account is created for the recipient, which can be deleted by the recipient if not desired. The recipient will be informed of this pre-account via e-mail. The same applies for users who are invited to fill calendar doors.

During registration the user will also be asked to provide on a voluntary basis the following:

  • gender
  • birthday
  • country
  • region/city

Recipients of the calendar and people invited to fill calendar doors may enter this data when visiting one224 for the first time. You can delete your own set-up account whenever you wish.

Following successful registration every user receives an account and a personal password which can be changed after the first login.

Furthermore one224 is interested in the way users found out about one224 in the first place. Providing this information is also voluntary for users and helps one224 optimize its services.



3. Collection of Data

In addition to data collected during the registration process (please see Point 2) the following personal data is collected or respectively accepted by one224:

The offering makes it necessary for one224 to utilise so-called cookies; that is, small data files which are saved on the user’s computer. These cookies are used to recognize the user and make it easier e.g. for the user to login.

In using one224 services, access data is collected und saved; e.g. the IP address of the user, the remote host which is requesting the webpage, information on the browser used, time and duration of usage, data volume transferred,  as well as the webpage the user has arrived from.

When using one224 the user can decide if he wants to upload or create personal content to one224. When uploading or creating content to one224 the user is not allowed to upload content where he is not the creator of the content or when he is breaching copyright by uploading (please see general terms and conditions).

How one224 handles, saves, uses and deletes this data can be found in Points 4-6.



4. Handling, Saving and Using Data

one224 handles, saves and uses personal data and content mentioned in Points 2 and 3.

one224 converts this data into anonymous, aggregated user data and user profiles. One224 uses this data for market research and marketing purposes, for the creation of advertising rates and to improve one224 service. This anonymous and aggregated data is not linked to names and e-mail addresses. Names and e-mail addresses will not provided by one224 to third parties.

one224 utilises user names and e-mail addresses to send the one224 newsletter and in the context of  reminding him of his advent calendar.

one224 aims for the highest possible protection of stored data. Nevertheless the transmission of data in the Internet and the storage of data on servers is never 100% secure. Despite using current security standards one224 points out that it is possible for data which is sent via the Internet to be read and intercepted by third parties. Although our servers are safeguarded against unauthorized access we cannot guarantee 100% security of your data. one224 is not responsible for the archiving of data created and uploaded by the user. one224 recommends a personal backup of your data.

All statements regarding (non-) transmission of personal data can in exceptional cases be rendered null and void. Exceptional cases include for example if users explicitly permit transmission of their data. Furthermore it can in certain cases be required to provide data to third parties (such as law enforcement agencies) in order to solve criminal acts or to defend against cyber attacks on one224 or where users previously convicted of crimes have come to the attention of one224. In such cases one224 is allowed to provide such data to the public authorities.


5. Deletion of Data

In cases of violation of the general terms and conditions of one224 or an infringement of rights of other users, such violations (particularly of copyright) permit one224 to delete data and accounts of offending users.

one224 users may delete their accounts at any time. If this means a premature ending of one224 services then the provisions of the general terms and conditions apply.



6. Third Party Offers Via one224

The one224 offering and website may contain services, offerings, advertisement and links from third parties. The data protection principles are not applicable for these third parties. It is possible that these third party providers and partners use, administer and store data collected via one224. In this case the data protection principles of the applicable third parties apply. one224 maintains no liability in regards to the conduct of these third parties.



7. Enforcement and compliance of Data Protection Principles

 

one224 is committed to comply with and uphold the principles of this statement on data protection as described.

Changes in the data protection principles will be published on our website. Major changes will be announced via e-mail to its users.

In case of a change in the ownership structure or the offerings of one224 the user data and/or offerings will be communicated to the new owners of one224 to ensure the operations and offerings of one224 continue. In such an event all above-mentioned data protection guidelines remain in effect.

Individual users are permitted to disagree to this data transmission.



8. Data at Time of Payment

The personal data entered and transferred during the payment process (the data for the PayPal Account or the phone numbers used to pay with the services offered by Micropayment GmbH) will not be forwarded by the provider to third parties. Your data will only be used and stored for the purpose of effecting payment and will not be forwarded to third parties without your permission. An exception to this is if one224 is obliged to transfer such data for legal reasons.



9. Responsibility of the User

one224 requests its users in the event of revelation of misuse of personal data or the violation of copyright to inform one224 of such immediately. This also applies if there are other violations of rights of third parties within the context of one224.

one224 assumes that the user keeps strictly confidential his access data (login and password) and does not provide it to third parties. The transmission of access data to third parties is not permitted. one224 is not responsible in the event of possible misuse of its offerings or services due to disregard for its general terms and conditions.
